The current vacancy is for Senior Resource Recovery Worker in the Public Works Department. This promotional recruitment is open to current regular City of Santa Cruz employees in the classified service only. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may be used to fill other Regular and Temporary Senior Resource Recovery Worker vacancies that may occur during the life of the list.
The eligibility list established from this recruitment is valid for up to one year from the date established unless the list is extended or abolished by the Human Resources Director.
This position requires a valid California Class B driver's license. DMV printout must be submitted at the time of application. Interviews will be tentatively scheduled for top candidates. The examination process will include an interview and may include a written and/or performance exercise.
Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled assignments in the daily operations of the Resource Recovery Facility; may be assigned to lead a small crew or perform the more technical Resource Recovery tasks; operates Resource Recovery Facility equipment; collects, sorts and bales recyclable materials; assists and directs the public; and performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis class is the advanced working level of the Resource Recovery series. It differs from the Resource Recovery Worker in that incumbents are assigned tasks which require a more advanced skill or specialized knowledge of the techniques, equipment and tools used in resource recovery functions. Incumbents work independently or as a member of a crew, but duties are performed without direct or continuing supervision.
The Senior Resource Recovery Worker may be assigned to lead a small crew of Resource Recovery Workers or temporary employees. (May include, but are not limited to, those duties listed below.)
- Regularly operates the baler, excavator, loaders, large trucks, forklifts, materials sorting conveyors, material sorting stations and portable loading ramps and other equipment found at the Resource Recovery Facility.
- Meets with the supervisors to discuss, receive and distribute work assignments for self and crew.
- Maintains accurate records of productivity, quantities of materials, and other related operational data; performs basic arithmetical calculations.
- Performs routine maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Orders and restocks supplies and materials as required.
- Safely handles toxic and hazardous materials.
- Assists in the implementation of safety programs.
- Assists in and coordinates the training of Resource Recovery Workers or temporary employees.
- Assists supervisors with the development and implementation of new work procedures and programs.
