Value Engineer (Cost Estimation / Quoting Engineer)

The Value Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, pricing proposals, and lead time projections based on customer RFQs, drawings, and technical specifications. This role collaborates closely with engineering, project management, suppliers, and customers to evaluate manufacturing feasibility, assess risks, and ensure competitive yet profitable quotations.
Responsibilities- Create accurate pricing and lead time estimations per customer proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
- Identify labor, material, subcontract process and time requirements.
- Prepare and issue supplier and subcontractor proposals and pricing.
- Communicate with customers on specification, questions or clarifications regarding the work, during the quoting process.
- Present and share estimation info with team and customers.
- Work alongside project management and engineers/programmers during the initial planning phase to clarify any estimation decisions, including but not limited to materials and methods.
- Periodically review estimated hours to actual hours and goals with supervisor and project team.
- Seek input on corrective measures to continuously improve the identification and accuracy of cost figures.
- Manage bid pricing from all vendors and ensure rapid completion of estimates.
- Track progress of RFQ to PO with follow up correspondence and document progress in the quoting log.
- Perform Risk Analysis on complex geometries or exotic materials to identify potential manufacturing hurdles before the bid is submitted.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field.
- 3+ years of experience in cost estimation, quoting, manufacturing engineering, or related role.
- Strong understanding of machining, fabrication, or semiconductor-related manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Proficient in Excel and ERP/MRP systems.
- Knowledge of cost modeling and value engineering methodologies.
- Experience in NPI Engineer in high-precision manufacturing is a plus.
