The Safety Professional is responsible for supporting the project team in the successful completion of a construction project across the East Bay Area, San Francisco and South Bay Area(s). The role requires the ability to take direction and independently execute a work plan, collaborate effectively, and innovate to do more with less. The candidate embraces initiative and accountability, manages multiple deadlines, and supports Southland’s culture of People and Safety First.
Responsibilities may involve working on a single site or multiple sites, while collaborating with the Division Safety team. The position may be filled as a Safety Coordinator I or II, depending on professional experience and education.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Company’s Safety and Health Program, applicable Regulatory Standards and EM 385‑1‑1
- Understanding of site specific project safety requirements
- Assist in the completion and maintenance of the Accident Prevention Plan
- Assist the Project Superintendent in the project site‑specific safety orientation
- Conduct project safety training, as needed
- Conduct project safety audits
- Participate in OSHA inspections
- Participate in all incident and/or near miss investigations
- Work with project team to maintain and anticipate necessary safety supplies for employees
- Attend Owner and Client meetings and work with their safety representatives, as necessary
- Assist in the development and review of Activity Hazard Analysis
- A bachelor’s degree in safety, health, and environmental applied sciences and a minimum of 2 years of safety related experience, including health and safety management systems, auditing safety processes, and in‑depth knowledge of the laws, regulations, policies, procedures and practical application governing safety in the workplace.
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA Construction and State Regulations.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, meeting established deadlines.
- Ability to train others (individuals and groups).
- CHST, CSP, or ASP certification preferred.
- OSHA 10hr, OSHA 30hr, OSHA 40hr training, and OSHA 500 certification required.
- Certifications in CPR and First Aid.
- Computer skills, e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Windows.

Pay: Final pay is determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. In California this ranges from $73,000.00 – $88,000.00 plus annual incentive, benefits, and retirement program as outlined above.
Contingent Employment: All employment offers are contingent upon successful drug tests, background checks, and professional reference checks. Roles that include driving as an essential job duty will require a successful Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR). Sponsorship of employment is not available at this time.
