Overview

We seek an energetic, collaborative, and compassionate 1st grade teacher for fall of 2026. Ideally, this teacher has a California multiple subject teaching credential (or eligibility to qualify for one) along with teaching experience in a Waldorf setting and/or a Waldorf teaching certificate. At the same time, we will consider all applicants who meet the California credentialing requirement, and, who are willing to invest in learning about Waldorf pedagogy and attend teacher trainings.

River Oak follows a teacher looping schedule of 1-5, and 6-8; the kindergarten teachers remain in the early childhood classroom. The teacher should endeavor to model qualities of enthusiasm for teaching, imagination, creativity, self-discipline, respectfulness and gratitude, eagerness to work, and a spirit of joy.

• Teach 1st grade for fall 2026, in a school that follows the 1-5 and 6-8 looping schedule (kindergarten remains in early childhood).
• Model enthusiasm for teaching, imagination, creativity, self-discipline, respectfulness and gratitude, eagerness to work, and a spirit of joy.
• Contribute to a full-time, salaried position for school months (typically mid August through early June) with in-service days included into the 180-day work calendar.
• Engage in learning about Waldorf pedagogy and attend teacher trainings as part of professional development.

• California multiple subject teaching credential (or eligibility to qualify for one).
• Teaching experience in a Waldorf setting and/or Waldorf teaching certificate, or willingness to develop in Waldorf pedagogy.

• Health and dental insurance, CAL STRS retirement plan, CTC mentoring, financial support for professional development, and enrollment preference for teachers’ children.

• Schedule is Monday through Friday, 7.5 hours a day.
• In-service days are included into the 180-day work calendar.
• Teachers receive additional compensation for time worked on curriculum-related field trips outside of regular hours, and for after-school tutoring.
