Description

Mendocino-Lake Community College District is currently accepting applications for a Short-Term, Non-Continuing Fine Woodworking Technician to work at our Fine Woodworking program also known as The Krenov School located in Fort Bragg, CA.

This is a temporary, non-continuing position. This position is open until filled. This position will be 40 hours per week not to exceed 40 hours per week, for two weeks in Summer 2025 and as needed after that.

Representative Duties

The successful candidate will support student and institutional success by executing the following duties:

Classroom Support
  • Assist in the bench room as needed to support faculty to achieve instructional goals.
  • Assist with specific technical questions from students regarding machinery, supplies and equipment.
  • Assist Faculty and Dean to develop summer course schedule for Summer Session.
  • Provide Instructional Assistance and office support for the Summer Session.
  • Produce or fabricate all materials required for student assignments.
  • Facilitate various activities relating to program, including Fall and Spring furniture exhibitions, open house, and all other events.
  • Maintain the general order within both the bench room and machine room.
  • Respond to the varied needs of students and faculty.
  • Monitor documentation related to student accidents.
Machine Room
  • Assist students in the safe and proper use of all machines.
  • Repair or facilitate the repair of all woodshop machinery.
  • Determine machinery needs and procure new machinery when necessary.
  • Maintain all woodshop machinery in good and safe working order.
  • Maintain supply of sharp bits and blades for the machine room, and all supplies necessary for the program. Custom make bits as required.
  • Design and build jigs for use by students in the machine room.
Facilities
  • Purchase and maintain a supply of specialty tools and supplies.
  • Monitor all condition of the building and coordinate with Center Supervisor, maintenance, and custodial staff to maintain a clean, safe and professional looking campus.
Wood Supply
  • Coordinate, supply and organize an extensive wood supply which is made available to students for student projects.
  • Acquire logs annually for milling demonstration for students; coordinate the milling and storage of all green lumber.
Finances
  • Take in all monies paid by students for their personal projects and various supplies; deposit money from students into appropriate college accounts.
  • Maintain records and receipts and provide documentation to Center Supervisor.
  • Coordinate all purchases related to the Fine Woodworking program.
  • Monitor budgets related to Fine Woodworking.
Communication and Multimedia
  • Works with the District Communications Department.
  • Maintain e‑mail communication with the public and students.
  • Assist in the creation and/or provision of all non‑instructional documentation and forms required by the program, registration, and general information.
  • Assist with the content and updates to the program’s website and Facebook page.
  • Assist in the creation and production of the annual application brochure.
  • Photograph and document all student projects throughout the year.
  • Photograph classroom activities for use on the website and social media.
  • Process pictures for use on our website, paper publishing, the student yearbook, and more.
Fundraising
  • Manage incoming donations to the Fine Woodworking program.
  • Coordinate with college foundation to provide IRS documentation related to incoming donations and work with donors.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Working Conditions

Classroom/lab woodworking environment; dust and noise. Physical demands include sitting, standing, reaching, bending, walking, and heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs); climbing ladders with heavy objects; may be asked to pull a trailer or drive a District vehicle to pick-up supplies as needed.
