Overview
Our busy catering operation at Newport Wetlands Reserve is looking for a catering assistant to join the team. We are seeking an individual who can deliver the highest standards of customer care and assist with the day-to-day running of the café operation, in line with set RSPB procedures and routines. Newport Wetlands is a special area for wildlife, lying between the Severn estuary and the river Usk.
It is one of the most important areas of wetland habitat in Wales, providing a haven for wildlife on the edge of the city and is a popular visitor attraction. The RSPB manages the visitor facilities, which include the café with reserve views.
- Assist with the day-to-day running of the café operation and deliver high standards of customer care in line with RSPB procedures.
- Work during the day, weekends, and Bank Holiday periods as essential.
- Enthusiastic approach to work
- High understanding of the principles of food hygiene
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Problem-solving skills and ability to work on own initiative
- Ability to manage and respond to customer needs and feedback
- Experience of working in a target-driven/pressured environment
- Experience of working on the till, card machine, and cashing up
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Experience of working at a café/bar/pub
- Till operation and payment handling
- Knowledge of food and food service skills
- Computer skills
This is a Permanent, Part-Time role for 9 hours per week, increasing to 13 hours in busy weeks and/or to cover holiday.
