Position Summary
The Quality Engineer will play a key role in the day-to-day operations of the Quality function, ensuring ongoing compliance with the organisation's Quality Management System (QMS). The position involves active participation in audits, first article inspections, calibration activities, inspection strategies, and advanced product quality planning processes. Close collaboration with customers and suppliers is essential to ensure all quality expectations are consistently achieved.
As the business continues to expand, this role will adapt to evolving quality demands and will also contribute significantly to supplier quality activities. Responsibilities include supporting supplier development initiatives, taking part in risk-based supplier assessments, and assisting in the investigation and resolution of complex quality concerns.
Key ResponsibilitiesDrive continuous enhancement of quality systems and processes in line with AS9100, NADCAP, and customer requirements.
Plan and perform internal audits and supplier assessments in accordance with QMS procedures.
Lead structured problem-solving activities for non-conformances, from initial containment through to root cause analysis and corrective action.
Prepare and review First Article Inspection Reports (AS9102) and provide support for PPAP and APQP activities (AS9145).
Apply appropriate quality tools to ensure product conformity throughout all stages of the product lifecycle.
Monitor and analyse quality performance metrics to identify trends and implement improvement actions both internally and across the supply chain.
Enhance incoming inspection processes for externally sourced materials and components.
Oversee supplier qualification activities, including approval processes and evaluation of FAIR and PPAP submissions.
Support ongoing supplier performance management, working cross-functionally to maintain standards and implement corrective actions where performance gaps are identified.
Skills and Experience
High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with strong organisational capabilities and the ability to respond effectively to change.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills, enabling tasks to be driven through to completion.
Comfortable working autonomously while also contributing effectively within a team environment.
Practical experience maintaining and supporting Quality Management Systems to ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards.
Familiarity with NADCAP requirements for NDT and welding is advantageous but not mandatory.
Hands-on experience with FAIRs, APQP, PPAP, and conducting both internal and supplier audits.
Proven capability in structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g. 8D) and managing customer complaints.
Strong analytical mindset with the ability to investigate and resolve complex quality issues.
