Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Staff Nurse to join our dedicated Gynaecology team at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. This post is a part time, fixed term post for 11 months. The post requires internal rotation between days and nights and weekends.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated nurse with a passion for women’s health to provide high-quality nursing care to patients admitted for elective Gynae-Oncology procedures as well as those presenting with acute gynaecological emergencies. You will play a key role in supporting patients throughout their surgical journey, delivering safe, evidence-based care, and promoting a positive patient experience.

Within the ward there is also an Early Pregnancy Unit, Gynaecology Assessment Unit, and pre-op assessment unit, which will require empathetic, patient-centred care in often sensitive situations.

Please note: This role does not meet the minimum criteria for visa sponsorship under the current UK immigration rules. Applicants will therefore need to already have the right to work in the UK to be considered.

Main duties of the job

Provide high quality, compassionate nursing care to women admitted to the Gynaecology Ward for elective surgical procedures and emergency presentations. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised care plans, ensuring safe and effective delivery of evidence-based practice.

Support the management of patients undergoing elective gynaecology surgery, including preoperative preparation, post-operative care, pain management, and discharge planning.

Deliver timely and appropriate care to patients attending with acute gynaecological conditions, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe clinical decision making.

Work collaboratively with medical staff, specialist nurses, healthcare assistants and allied health professionals to provide seamless patient care and maintain excellent communication.

Working for our organisation

At UHSussex, diversity is our strength, and we want you to feel included to help us always deliver Excellent Care Everywhere, as shown in our Outstanding for Caring CQC rating. We have a range of staff networks to help break down barriers, and can offer a buddy to help new members settle in. We’re proud to be a Disability Confident Employer (Level
3) and a Veteran Aware Trust.
