Commissioning Engineer - Food & Beverage

Location: Liverpool / Merseyside (Fully Onsite)
Contract: Outside IR35
Duration: 3-month initial contract (strong likelihood of extension)

Overview

We are supporting a food & beverage manufacturer based in Liverpool that requires an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support site-based commissioning activities on production and processing equipment.

This is a hands-on, fully onsite role, and candidates must be able to work daily in the Merseyside area. Extensive Food & Beverage commissioning experience is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support commissioning activities for food & beverage production and processing equipment

  • Carry out site acceptance testing (SAT) and support FAT follow-through where required

  • Commission machinery in line with food safety, hygiene, and validation requirements

  • Work closely with:

    • Controls / Automation Engineers

    • Maintenance & Engineering teams

    • Production and Operations teams

  • Fault finding and rectification during commissioning and ramp-up phases

  • Ensure equipment meets performance, safety, and quality standards

  • Support handover to production, including operator and maintenance input

  • Produce and update commissioning documentation, test records, and sign-off reports

Essential Experience & Skills
  • Proven Commissioning Engineer experience within the Food & Beverage sector (non-negotiable)

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Food production lines

    • Hygienic design principles

    • CIP / SIP processes (where applicable)

  • Experience commissioning:

    • Packaging lines

    • Processing equipment

    • Conveyors, fillers, ovens, mixers, or similar F&B machinery

  • Strong fault-finding capability across electrical, controls, and mechanical interfaces

  • Comfortable working in a live production environment

  • Able to work fully onsite in Liverpool / Merseyside

Desirable (but not essential)
  • PLC exposure (Siemens / Allen Bradley / similar)

  • Experience working on high-speed or continuous process lines

  • Food safety knowledge (BRC, HACCP, GMP environments)
