Team Manager – North Assessment Team
The role of Team Manager in our North Assessment Team is to ensure that the work of the team is aligned with the policy and procedural frameworks of the council and is consistent with the relevant legal and regulatory frameworks in their service area. The team manager will be responsible for the operational oversight and activity of the work in the Assessment Team, including managing, supporting and developing qualified Social Workers.
The team manager will drive forward good practice and quality assure the work of the team. The Team Manager provides compassionate and supportive leadership which promotes a strength‑based and restorative approach to the work in the team and develops a supportive and nurturing culture with the child at the centre of everything the team does.
- Ensure the work of the team is aligned with council policy, procedural frameworks, and relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Operationally oversee and support the Assessment Team, managing, supporting and developing qualified Social Workers.
- Drive forward good practice and quality‑assure the team's work.
- Provide compassionate, supportive, strength‑based leadership, fostering a child‑centred, nurturing culture.
- Provide regular, high‑quality monthly supervision and day‑to‑day management oversight to ensure excellent service for children and staff competence.
- Create a collaborative team culture that improves the lives of children and young people.
- Identify risk issues early, ensuring immediate safeguarding action when required.
- Divert families to appropriate agencies when thresholds for social care intervention are not met.
- Ensure swift allocation for Assessment to avoid drift and delay, ensuring timely progress of referrals to conclusion.
- Collaborate creatively with wider services to achieve service objectives and drive practice and improvement.
- Requirement for an Enhanced DBS Check.
- Strong interpersonal skills to create and sustain relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders in other organisations.
- Driven to develop and improve an already high‑functioning team through compassionate and inclusive leadership.
- Ability to motivate and support staff through high‑quality supervision and management oversight.
- Ability to see the bigger picture and commitment to wider service area and council objectives.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
