We are recruiting for a Commercial Manager / Commercial Lead to join a leading main contractor delivering a major substation build in South Wales. This is a senior-level role suited to someone with extensive commercial management experience in infrastructure, civil engineering, utilities or energy projects.
This is an outstanding long-term career opportunity to work with a highly respected contractor on a high-profile infrastructure scheme, overseeing commercial performance and leading a substantial commercial team. You will report directly to the Commercial Director and play a key role in the successful delivery of a major programme of works.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage the commercial function for a major substation construction project
* Oversee cost control, forecasting, budgeting, and contract administration
* Manage subcontractor procurement, negotiation, valuations and payments
* Ensure commercial and contractual compliance across all project activities
* Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and internal teams
* Drive commercial strategy to maximise project value and minimise risk
* Mentor, support and lead a growing commercial team
* Provide regular reporting to senior leadership including the Commercial Director
Requirements:
* Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor stepping up
* Strong background within civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities or energy projects
* Solid knowledge of NEC contracts (preferred)
* Track record of leading or supporting commercial teams
* Strong commercial acumen with excellent communication and negotiation skills
* Ability to manage complex, large-scale projects with multiple stakeholders
* Driven, proactive and capable of taking ownership at a senior level
