Operations Manager – Delivering Excellence in Defence Facilities Maintenance

The Role
  • Oversee day‑to‑day operations of maintenance and response works across key MoD sites.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health and Safety, Environmental, and statutory legislation, and with MoD requirements.
  • Monitor and report performance of supply chain teams, maintaining value for money and quality outcomes.
  • Review risk assessments, method statements and risk registers; coordinate safe working practices on site.
  • Manage Asbestos and Legionella programmes and liaise with Mobile Authorised Persons for work at height and confined spaces.
  • Act as the single point of contact for customer issues, building strong relationships with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and site end users.
  • Develop new work requirements, resolve complaints and support the helpdesk with technical guidance.
  • Provide supervision, coaching and delegation to ensure optimal service levels and a strong safety culture.
  • Make cost‑effective decisions that balance stakeholder expectations with value for money, and contribute to forward maintenance planning.
  • Analyse data, maintain accurate records and monitor delivery against key milestones, sharing best practices and driving continuous improvement.
What You’ll Bring
  • Minimum HNC or equivalent qualification in Building, Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Management‑level Health & Safety qualification such as SMSTS, or equivalent experience with sufficient technical knowledge to triage maintenance tasks.
  • Experience of managing hard‑services FM and delivering performance on defence contracts.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
