As a Product Consultant in Kainos, you will be responsible for your team’s backlog maturity, taking ownership of features from inception through to delivery. You will drive MVP thinking and communicate the value of it with team members, the wider project team, and relevant stakeholders. You will lead agile ceremonies, encourage engagement, and facilitate workshops with a variety of stakeholders to achieve consensus.
You will actively participate within the Product capability, support delivery of initiatives, and manage, coach, and develop a small number of staff with a focus on performance.
- Experience in bespoke software delivery, operating as part of an agile team for an external customer (client‑facing role in consulting is a must‑have).
- UK public sector (central government) experience.
- Experience of the software development lifecycle from analysis to launch and live operations.
- Excellent facilitator of workshops, able to lead stakeholder groups to focused outcomes.
- Accomplished at modelling As‑is and To‑be business processes, presenting these to stakeholders and the team for buy‑in.
- Experience in stakeholder management, comfortable challenging decisions and adapting communication styles.
- Responsible for breaking down work from inception through to delivery and managing the team’s backlog for quality and maturity.
- Responsible for elicitation of functional, technical and non‑functional requirements, translating these into user stories.
- Ability to use prioritisation techniques to refine the backlog and manage dependencies.
- Proven ability to manage scope to meet the required MVP while delivering value.
- Ability to work within commercial constraints such as cost restrictions and project deadlines.
- Excellent user story writing skills, ensuring quality and consistency across the project.
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships inside and outside the delivery team and collaborate on breaking work into deliverable pieces.
- Experience contributing to sales activities (e.g., working on bids, writing proposals).
- Experienced in Agile methodologies and able to mentor team members and coach clients.
- Passionate about developing people – demonstrated ability to manage, coach and develop junior members.
- Experience explaining technical jargon to non‑technical/commercial teams.
