Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Information Specialist to join the Value Transformation directorate of NHS Wales Performance and Improvement. NHS Wales Performance and Improvement works with health boards and trusts in planning services and managing programs and projects across organisational boundaries. This role will be in the field of cancer and will support the delivery of the Cancer Audit Programme.

The junior information specialist will work as part of a team that supports Health Boards and Trusts across Wales in the delivery of cancer services. You will have the opportunity to work closely with information specialists, clinicians and others to analyse and interpret data to support clinical audit and improve quality; play a significant role in the development of new information and intelligence systems and solutions for cancer in Wales;

and to use your information skills to support various projects across the NHS Wales Performance and Improvement to improve cancer services.

The post holder will support the cancer information and intelligence team to provide guidance and support to clinicians and multidisciplinary cancer services teams across Wales, ensuring that all health boards and trusts in Wales work in line with national strategies, plans and priorities for informatics specifically relating to cancer pathways.

The role has a specific responsibility for delivering specialised and technical knowledge of cancer information and its use/capture within clinical systems, that support National Clinical Audits for cancer, Peer Review (Quality Assurance), and for advising the National Strategic Clinical Network for Cancer.

The post holder will ensure that cancer information meets the needs of health boards/trusts and their clinical teams in supporting the delivery of cancer services, and data is collected in a timely and accurate manner and recorded in accordance with the All Wales Cancer Datasets and guidance set out to support data collection within cancer informatic systems.
