Band 7 Highly Specialised Occupational Therapist
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Medical Therapy team as a band 7 Team Lead Occupational Therapist. Joining an interdisciplinary team working across a range of specialties.
The post holder will support the day to day management of the medical therapy team.
Main duties of the jobThis post holder will have their own caseload of complex medical inpatients working in specialty areas including infectious diseases, HIV, respiratory medicine, and cardiology. This can include complex neurological symptoms, a range of respiratory conditions, HIV and infectious diseases, cancers and palliative care. The clinical aspect of the role is to provide expert input to improve patient outcomes, facilitate discharge planning.
The leadership element to the role is to provide support and day to day leadership to the medicine therapy team including OTs, Physios and therapy assistants, providing clinical supervision and line management to some staff members.
The post holder will receive regular supervision and peer support as well as have opportunities for study, leadership and training. This will include in service training, specific OT training and OT SIM.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking and experienced Occupational Therapist who has significant experience of working with people with a variety of medical conditions, including experience with neurology. Applicants must demonstrate a broad knowledge of treatment strategies, have excellent and advanced communication skills and demonstrate a flexible and positive approach.

Person Specification World Class Care Values- Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values
- Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration in OT
- Completed relevant post registration specialist courses for example: OT assessments of specific conditions OT treatment approaches Outcome measures Supervision Skills Training for staff and students OT Practice Educator course
- Member of Specialist OT Section group
- Substantial post-graduate work experience as an Occupational Therapist, predominately working with patients with physical and cognitive disabilities
- Experience of working as an OT at a senior level with a variety of medical presentations e.g. Respiratory, Cardiac
- Experience of working with elderly patients
- Experience of working with Bariatric patients
- Considerable experience of being a Band 6 OT
- Experience and ability of working in an acute setting
- Experience of teaching and supervising less experienced staff.
- Experience of teaching and supervising OT students.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and use own initiative.
- Motivational Interviewing/ Behaviour Change training (CBT or facilitation skills)
- Knowledge and experience in the use of occupational therapy models of practice
- Demonstrate effective communication skills to a range of audiences e.g. users, carers and other professionals
- Experience of working effectively and efficiently as part of an MDT.
- Demonstrated clear understanding of clinical governance and its application to the work setting.
- Knowledge of quality assurance and audit programmes in line with requirements for Clinical Governance
- Knowledge of research and development process, Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- Ability to lead a small team
- Professional fluent in written and oral English.
- Ability to carry out manual handling practices.
