Finance Director (Hands‑On / Step‑Up Opportunity)

Manufacturing | Shropshire / West Midlands Border | On‑site 5 days per week

We are working with a well‑established manufacturing business based in Shropshire, close to the West Midlands border, to appoint a hands‑on Finance Director. While the title is Finance Director, this role will particularly suit a Financial Controller or Finance Manager who is ready to take their first step into a Finance Director position.

This is a broad, operational finance leadership role within a stable manufacturing environment, offering full ownership of the finance function and close day‑to‑day interaction with the senior leadership team.

This role is based fully on‑site, five days per week.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for the effective day‑to‑day leadership of the finance function, ensuring robust reporting, controls and commercial insight.

• Full ownership of the finance function, including financial reporting, controls, cashflow and compliance
• Leading, mentoring and developing a finance team of four
• Preparation of monthly management accounts, forecasts and budgets
• Providing accurate and timely financial information to support operational and commercial decision‑making
• Reviewing and improving finance processes, systems and internal controls
• Acting as the senior finance contact for auditors, banks and external advisors
• Working closely with the Managing Director to support the ongoing performance of the business

• Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
• Currently operating as a Financial Controller, Senior Financial Controller or Finance Manager, ideally within a manufacturing or industrial environment
• Comfortable in a hands‑on role, remaining close to the numbers and day‑to‑day finance operations
• Experience managing and developing a small finance team
• Strong attention to detail with a pragmatic, commercial mindset
• Ambitious and motivated to step into a broader leadership role with increased responsibility
