Project Manager; High Voltage

Do you have hands-on experience leading HV delivery with subcontractors and designers (including HV cable and plant) and controlling programme, interfaces, and technical compliance on 132kV & 400kV works?
Can you evidence robust design management leadership, running reviews, tracking deliverables, closing actions/RFIs, and enforcing document control/BIM requirements in a live project environment?
The OpportunityThis role exists to support an expansion of HV scope and increased delivery demands across multiple work streams. You'll oversee HV cable and plant subcontractors, coordinate designers and supply chain partners, and act as the technical lead for HV interfaces and assurance. - Lead and manage HV cable and HV plant subcontractors to deliver works in compliance with contractual, technical, and HS&E requirements.
- Manage HV and MEP designer activities and deliverables to the agreed programme; track inputs/outputs and report progress to senior leadership.
- Act as the technical lead for all HV works, including design reviews, interface management, and challenge/close-out of non-conformances.
- Coordinate design queries, comments, and actions from workshops/meetings; raise RFIs and maintain robust records.
- Maintain the design deliverables schedule; review monthly designer reports; produce monthly design progress and performance reports.
- Ensure compliance with design management processes and documentation control; manage provision of drawings to the project team.
- Oversee BIM requirements for permanent and temporary works in conjunction with BIM/CAD specialists.
- Identify temporary works and support the TWC in preparing design briefs for HV and MEP packages.
- Commercial management: define work scopes and programmes; support procurement; agree monthly subcontract accounts and variations; issue formal instructions; forecast cost and value and close gaps with action plans.
- Contract management: ensure compliance with legal, company, and environmental obligations; lead management of HV/LV subcontractors and suppliers.
- Project management: produce and maintain the integrated management plan, resource plans, and resourced programme; coordinate with planning; set and monitor production targets; drive continuous improvement and value.
- Risk and opportunity: actively participate in risk management, maintaining registers and using project tools to monitor and mitigate.
- Assurance: promote high standards in Health, Safety, Environmental, Sustainability and Quality; investigate incidents and close actions.
- Change control: maintain detailed knowledge of scope and instructed change; identify and evidence uninstructed change; support the commercial team with timely records.
- Administration and reporting: manage stakeholder relationships; ensure controlled distribution of approved documents; contribute to periodic project reports, payment applications, programme updates, and handover documentation; ensure data is entered into compliance and document control systems.
- Additional duties commensurate with role seniority, including supporting recruitment and development of engineers, and promoting best practice across procedures, method statements, ITPs, and digital engineering.
- 10 years' experience on high voltage projects with a contractor
- Previous experience working on National Grid transmission systems (400kV, 275kV or 132kV)
- Experience on Design & Build projects (advantageous)
- Strong understanding of National Grid Transmission Procedures and Technical Specifications
- Significant construction and design experience
- Understanding of Principal Designer and Principal Contractor duties
- Ability to manage and communicate design queries, reviews and deliverables
- Experience with design management processes and documentation control
- Ability to lead HV/LV subcontractor management
- Strong commercial awareness including subcontractor packages, accounts and forecasting
- Competent in digital engineering/BIM for both permanent and temporary works
- SMSTS trained
- National Grid Competent Person (CP) or ability to achieve
- Valid UK Driver's License
- Experience implementing and promoting digital engineering practices across design and construction
- Ability to manage BIM requirements for both permanent and temporary works
- Strong understanding of temporary works identification and preparation of design briefs
- Experience supporting risk management processes and using risk management tools
- Ability to challenge designs, specifications and methods to drive continual improvement
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and experience representing the organisation in external meetings
