Overview
We're reimagining the future of automotive, refining the quality of our combustion engines and expanding into electrification. As an Applied Professional Engineering Degree Apprentice, you will become a multi-disciplinary engineer, developing digital technology solutions for modern luxury vehicles renowned for their desirability and performance.
Apprenticeship ProgrammeThe Level 6 Applied Professional Engineering Degree apprenticeship programme takes four years to complete and adheres to the Skills England Manufacturing Engineer (Degree) standard. You will study at the University of Warwick and complete hands‑on projects that support JLR’s global manufacturing success. The programme is assessed through an End Point Assessment (EPA) where you demonstrate the competencies and skills you have gained.
Whatto Expect
- Gain critical hands‑on experience and career‑building skills across the automotive industry.
- Develop practical engineering abilities, deepen foundational knowledge and build essential business behaviours such as teamwork and problem‑solving.
- Receive support from a JLR early‑careers cohort leader, the university team and your line manager.
- Earn a BEng (Hons) in Applied Professional Engineering upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
Year 1‑2 – Delivered through a mix of online study, face‑to‑face lectures and independent learning each week. You will apply university learning to real‑world projects and receive regular process reviews to ensure support from tutors and line managers.
Years 3‑4 – Focus on modules related to your chosen specialism (Manufacturing). The final year includes a work‑based project as part of the EPA, culminating in a Level 6 apprenticeship qualification and the opportunity to take on new responsibilities within the business.
Placement Locations- Global Manufacturing Engineering (GME) – Gaydon, Solihull, Wolverhampton, Whitley and other manufacturing & product design sites. GME designs, installs and commissions the facilities and processes that build JLR’s vehicles.
- Procurement – Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) – Gaydon, Solihull, Hams Hall, Wolverhampton. STA apprentices support commodities, develop procurement strategies, manage supplier relationships, source new products and drive process improvement.
- Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) Paint – Castle Bromwich, Solihull, Fen End. SVO Paint delivers premium paint content for halo models and limited‑run collector’s editions, transitioning to a new paint facility in 2026.
- GCSE Maths and English Language at level 5 or higher plus three additional GCSEs at level 5 (C) or higher, including one STEM subject.
- A‑level Maths at grade B or higher and an additional A‑level in Physics, Chemistry, Design & Technology or Engineering at grade C or higher.
