Location: Inverkip
A well-established UK Lighting manufacturer and market leader within its sector is seeking a Product Designer to join its expanding Product Design team. With a strong heritage in design and manufacturing excellence, the company delivers both standard and bespoke engineered products across multiple market sectors.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking organisation with in-house manufacturing capability and a strong focus on quality, innovation and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Support the administration and delivery of new product development projects
- Produce detailed 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, and BOMs
- Prepare technical documentation and product datasheets
- Liaise closely with Engineering Services to ensure accurate inter‑departmental data exchange and compliance with internal checking procedures
- Work alongside Technical Services and other departments in relation to Product Lifecycle Management
- Ensure manufacturability and efficient assembly are considered in all design work
- Develop and produce prototype samples, assessing engineering feasibility
- Collaborate closely with the metal shop to enable accurate “right first time” fabrication
- Support the development of bespoke and non‑standard product solutions
- Follow all internal Quality Control guidelines, ISO procedures, and Health & Safety policies
- Proven experience within a mechanical/product design role
- Strong 3D CAD capability (Solid Works preferred)
- Confident producing manufacturing‑ready drawings and documentation
- Computer literate with a proactive approach to developing further technical skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work to high levels of accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Reliable, organised, and self‑motivated
- Experience or exposure to the lighting industry
- Understanding of plastic injection moulding and design for manufacture
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes
- Familiarity with Salvagnini or Amada machine tools
- Understanding of electrical, optical, or thermal engineering principles
