We are looking for a Controls and Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer to join the Rolls-Royce Submarines Business. This engineering role is an important part of a once in a lifetime major infrastructure programme replacing the current facilities on a Nuclear Licensed Site with modern state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities. This opportunity is ideal for someone who wants to ensure that the C&I aspects of our new high-hazard facilities are designed and implemented to a suitably high-standard.
Our Submarines Business is responsible for the design, manufacture, supply and through-life support of nuclear propulsion-related products and systems for the Royal Navy's submarine fleet. We support the Royal Navy as the Technical Authority for all UK Naval Reactor Submarine Plants, and we're continuing to build our nuclear sector capability to support the development of a new nuclear plant for future submarines.

The purpose of this role is to support the entirety of the bespoke C&I facility design from requirements capture and initial concept development through to commissioning and handover to operations. This will require the ability to ensure that designs are safe and conform to relevant UK legislation as well as liaising with both internal/external supply chains and design partners as an intelligent customer.
This the role will involve working with both internal personnel and those in the supply chain. This includes our design partner who will be undertaking the detailed design at the component/programming level.

What you will be doing:
- Ensuring that facility designs are safe and conform to relevant legislation.
- Providing C&I support for the entirety of the design lifecycle for new bespoke factory systems, facilities, process plant and machines to achieve an integrated engineering solution.
- Acting as an intelligent customer for C&I matters arising in the supply chain and with our design partners. Ensuring that their proposals satisfy design intent and comply with relevant regulations, safety standard and legislation.
- Support facilitating commonality of C&I artifacts, principles and standards across the entire project.
- Authoring of technical reports to a professional standard.
- Extraction, creation and maintenance of technical requirements and associated verification & validation activities for C&I equipment.
- Ensuring that the C&I solutions optimally meet all project and technical, including safety, requirements.
- Working with the project management team to ensure that schedules, risks, costs and resource requirements are understood and maintained.

- Be a professionally qualified engineer at degree level (or equivalent experience) in Electrical, Electronic, Controls or C&I Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
- Be a Chartered Engineer or hold an affiliate/associate membership of a relevant professional body or be working towards Chartered/Incorporated status.
- Be experienced in designing bespoke safety critical products and systems.
- Have awareness of safety critical development constraints and relevant safety standards (e.g. IEC 60880, IEC 61508, etc).
