the Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Design / Bid Manager to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong civil engineering background and experience in Design & Build environments. You will lead design and build tenders, developing innovative and cost‑effective solutions that meet client requirements. Working closely with our estimating, commercial and legal teams, you will ensure that all bids are compliant, competitive and aligned with company standards.

You will report to the Pre‑Construction Manager and collaborate with the wider bid team. The role is primarily based at our Stocksfield office, with travel to project sites across the UK as business needs require.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with clients, stakeholders and internal teams to define project objectives, scope and deliverables.
  • Monitor project progress, track key performance indicators and take appropriate action to address issues or risks.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Apply strong technical knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices and standards.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, stakeholders and relevant authorities.
  • Attend client bid sessions, workshops and meetings as required.
  • Develop value‑engineering proposals and cost‑effective design solutions.
  • Gather detailed client feedback and support continuous improvement through lessons learned.
  • Support operational handover to delivery teams.
Skills & Experience
  • Experience working with NEC or FIDIC contracts and involvement in contract negotiation.
  • Strong leadership, team‑management and client‑facing skills.
  • Familiarity with MCHW or National Grid specifications.
  • Experience using MS Project or other planning/programming software.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to remote sites when required.
