This is an opportunity for a Civil Engineer who enjoys leading projects, supporting people and shaping good engineering - but who doesn't necessarily want a hard jump into an overly corporate or hands-off role.

An established, employee-owned engineering Consultancy with a strong base in Leeds and long-standing roots across Yorkshire is looking for a Principal Civil Engineer to join its Civils & Structures team. The Consultancy is known locally for its collaborative, down-to-earth culture and for delivering civil and structural engineering solutions that are practical, sustainable and genuinely make a difference to the places people live, work and learn.

The role would suit an experienced Senior Civil Engineer who is already taking responsibility for projects and mentoring others, as well as someone operating comfortably at Principal level. There is flexibility around how the role develops, with support in place to help the right person grow into the position rather than needing to arrive with everything already ticked off.

Based in Leeds, the team works on a broad mix of projects across Yorkshire and the wider UK, including building-related civil engineering, drainage and highways works for healthcare, education, commercial and mixed-use developments. The work is varied and engaging, often tied to regeneration, urban development and the improvement of existing sites, with a strong emphasis on buildable, well-considered solutions rather than over-complication.

The Principal Civil Engineer will play a key role in guiding projects from early design through to delivery, working closely with clients, architects and internal teams. There is plenty of scope to remain hands-on technically, alongside providing support and direction to engineers and technicians. Mentoring and sharing knowledge are seen as part of everyday work, not an add-on, and leadership here is very much about collaboration rather than hierarchy.

The Leeds Civils & Structures team sits within a wider multidisciplinary practice, giving engineers the chance to work closely with other disciplines and see the bigger picture on projects. Ideas are encouraged, experience is respected, and people are trusted to take ownership of their work.

Applicants will bring solid experience in civil engineering design within a Consultancy environment and will be comfortable leading elements of projects and supporting others. Being Chartered would be beneficial, but those who are demonstrably working towards chartership are equally encouraged to apply. Familiarity with tools such as Civil 3D or drainage modelling software is helpful, but mindset, judgement and approach are considered just as important as software capability.
