Materials Forming Engineer - West Midlands

Gaydon / Solihull / Castle Bromwich

Full‑time, on‑site
Shifts:
Days and occasional weekends as required (40 hrs/week)
We are seeking a Materials Forming Engineer to support press shop activities, material trials and validation, data analysis, and quality improvement across multiple manufacturing sites. The role requires strong technical capability, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work autonomously within a small engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver press trials to assess material formability and validate new materials.
- Analyse data and produce detailed reports on trial outcomes and material performance.
- Support material‑related quality concerns, including root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Lead or support material‑related cost‑reduction initiatives.
- Contribute to standardising material testing processes and equipment.
- Support delivery of materials for Try‑Out and Production Ramp‑Up on new programmes.
- Monitor scrap rates and assist with improvement actions.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, operations, and the supply chain to drive best practices and process improvement.
Key Interactions
- Engineering and operational teams across Press Shops and Manufacturing.
- Cross‑functional groups including BIW, Paint, and T&F.
- External suppliers for material delivery and technical support.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Apprenticeship, degree, or equivalent experience in engineering or sheet metal forming.
- Experience planning and executing press trials and related quality assessments.
- Strong understanding of forming technologies and material properties.
- Proven experience with root‑cause analysis and process improvements.
- Strong presentation and communication skills at all levels.
- Competent in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and O365 tools.
- Full driving licence and ability to travel between UK sites.
- Ability to work flexibly across shifts when required.
