Company OverviewBenweld Secure is a leading designer, manufacturer, and installer of armoury storage solutions, including secure weapon storage, secure walling, armoury & vault doors, serving hatches and bar-sets, all to protect against physical attack, blast and ballistic protection where multiple threat mitigation is required. We work with government, defence, utilities, and commercial clients across the UK and internationally.
Role OverviewAs a Design Engineer, you’ll play a key role in the technical development and testing of new and improved product designs. You’ll combine practical engineering knowledge with creative problem‑solving to deliver innovative, test‑proven security solutions that meet demanding certification and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Lead design and prototype development for new product concepts.
- Conduct material and performance testing in line with standards (e.g. LPS 1175, BS EN 1522/3).
- Support test house activities — from sample preparation to witnessing tests and recording data.
- Work collaboratively with production, suppliers, and other design team members to refine designs.
- Research new materials, hardware, and manufacturing techniques suitable for security applications.
- Maintain accurate documentation of test results, design iterations, and project outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation across Benweld Secure’s product portfolio.
£35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year.
Skills & Experience- HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Development, or similar.
- Strong hands‑on prototyping and problem‑solving skills.
- Understanding of ballistic, blast, or forced‑entry resistance design principles (advantageous).
- Ability to interpret and apply UK and EU security testing standards.
- Proficient in CAD software (Solid Works preferred) and mechanical design principles.
- Excellent organisation, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
- Experience working in a test or certification environment.
- Knowledge of materials such as steel and composite structures.
- A creative, curious mindset with an interest in innovation and emerging technologies.
