Position: Learning Support Assistant - Lunnasting Primary School - SIC08595
Location: Vidlin

Overview

Under the direction of the Head Teacher, the Learning Support Assistants are expected to support the delivery of high quality primary education and learning which effectively meets the needs of children.

Lunnasting Primary School is a non‑denominational school located in Vidlin. It provides nursery to P7 education for children from Vidlin and surrounding areas. The structure of the school is 1 nursery class and 2 composite primary classes. There are currently 36 pupils in the school and 12 pupils in the nursery. The school is managed by a teaching Head Teacher. The current Head Teacher is Ms Laura Tulloch.

Responsibilities
  • To support and work closely with the teacher in delivering a quality curriculum, linked to local and national guidelines.
  • To work closely with the teacher in implementing the planned learning experiences, including taking groups for specific activities, and supporting the children’s development and learning.

  • The grade of this post is D/E.
  • Rate of pay shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1.5523 per hour.
  • Please note that this job is not Career Graded. What this means is that a successful candidate would be employed as either a Qualified or Unqualified Learning Support Assistant. During the selection process, candidates will be assessed to determine whether they meet the person specification criteria of the qualified or unqualified Learning Support Assistant role. This would determine the salary/rate of pay, as well as what duties would be expected of the post holder during their employment.

  • Permanent Part Time post for 9.5 Hours per Week, 39 weeks per year.
  • 39 weeks per year plus 6.24 weeks (pro rata) paid holiday to be taken during school holidays.
  • Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made.
  • A relocation package does not apply to this post.
  • We will pay interview expenses from within Shetland.
