  • Location: Shuttleworth College – Old Warden
  • Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £25,585 and £30,915 per annum (Pro‑Rata) DOE and Qualifications, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
  • Hours/Weeks: 18.5 hours per week – 40 weeks per year
  • Contract Type: Permanent – Term and Part Time

About

The Role

We are currently seeking a SEND Emotional Support Facilitator to join our Foundation Learning & Additional Learning Support department at The Bedford College Group.

As a SEND Emotional Support Facilitator, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • SEND Learner Support & Mentoring – Act as the first point of contact for SEND students, providing tailored out‑of‑class support, regular mentoring and advocacy to help them feel safe, engaged and able to progress.
  • Engagement, Activities & Inclusion – Plan and deliver lunchtime and social activities, lead events that promote positive interaction and inclusion, and support diversity‑calendar activities to enhance wellbeing and engagement.
  • Collaboration & Student Welfare – Work closely with curriculum teams to support SEND students’ safety, wellbeing and achievement, attend support meetings and ensure student views are represented.
  • Record‑Keeping & Resource Management – Maintain additional learning support records, contribute to curriculum performance monitoring, and ensure displays and resources remain up‑to‑date and welcoming.
  • College‑Wide Responsibilities & Compliance – Participate in marketing events, uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, health & safety responsibilities and engage in relevant training and professional development.
About You
  • Qualifications & Core Knowledge – A‑Levels (or equivalent) plus GCSE‑level English and Maths, with strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice 2014, safeguarding, equality, diversity and confidentiality requirements.
  • Experience in SEND & Further Education – Experience supporting young people with SEND, working in FE or related settings, collaborating within teams and using IT/Microsoft Office confidently in daily practice.
  • Communication, Relationships & Professionalism – Able to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and external agencies, form appropriate professional boundaries and consistently represent the College positively.
  • Learner Support, Organisation & Initiative – Skilled in one‑to‑one support, prioritising workloads, innovating within the role and working independently while contributing to a welcoming, supportive and high‑performing environment.
