We're seeking a passionate, experienced Teacher who understands the unique complexities and profound rewards of working in a specialist SLD/ASC setting.
About the Role
As a Teacher at Landon School, you'll lead the planning, delivery, and assessment of personalised learning for students with complex needs. You'll create an engaging, adaptive classroom environment where every student can thrive at their own pace, working collaboratively with support staff, therapists, and families.
Your responsibilities will include:
Planning and delivering differentiated lessons tailored to students with SLD and ASC
Developing and implementing personalized education plans that meet individual learning needs
Creating a structured, sensory-appropriate, and nurturing classroom environment
Assessing and tracking student progress using appropriate methods for non-traditional learners
Working closely with Teaching Assistants and HLTAs to ensure consistent, high-quality support
Collaborating with therapists, families, and external professionals
Using positive behaviour support strategies and trauma-informed approaches
Adapting communication methods to meet diverse student needs, including non-verbal and minimally verbal learners
Contributing to the wider school community and continuous improvement initiatives
What We're Looking For
We welcome applications from:
Graduate teachers with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status), OR
ECTs (Early Career Teachers) with SLD experience, OR
Unqualified teachers with significant relevant experience in similar SLD/ASC settings
Essential:
Genuine passion for working with children with severe learning difficulties and autism
Understanding of individualized, person-centred approaches to education
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit complex, diverse learning needs
Commitment to creating an inclusive, safe, and happy learning environment
Highly Desirable:
2+ years of experience in SLD/ASC settings (this is our top priority and outweighs formal qualifications)
Demonstrated career progression and commitment in previous roles
Knowledge of AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication) systems
Understanding of sensory processing, regulation strategies, and positive behaviour support
Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams
We prioritise proven experience in specialist SEND settings above all other factors. Candidates with stable employment history showing reliability, progression, and dedication will stand out.
