Unqualified Teaching Assistant – SEMH Specialist School

Newcastle – Full-time, ongoing position.

Milk Education are partnering with a specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) school in the Newcastle area, seeking dedicated and resilient individuals to join their team.

Support secondary-aged pupils requiring specialist classroom support and may present with challenging behaviour.

About the Role

This rewarding yet demanding role is ideal for individuals passionate about making a difference in young people’s lives.

Although unqualified, applicants must have recent relevant experience working with children or young people. Experience may include:

  • School or classroom support
  • Youth work
  • Sports coaching
  • Behaviour mentoring
  • Care or support work
  • Alternative provision experience

Responsibilities:

  • Providing specialist classroom support to secondary-aged pupils.
  • Supporting students with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges.
  • Building positive relationships to help regulate emotions and behaviour.
  • Supporting learning on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Working closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams.

You will play a key role in helping students feel safe, understood, and supported in their educational journey.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Recent experience (within the last 2 years) working with children or young people.
  • Confident supporting secondary-aged pupils.
  • Experience managing or supporting challenging behaviour.
  • Calm, resilient, and patient under pressure.
  • Genuine passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs.
  • Works well as part of a team and follows professional guidance.
