Are you a passionate Science Teacher who believes that every young person deserves an engaging, accessible, and meaningful science education? This is a fantastic opportunity to join a specialist secondary setting in Portsmouth where relationships, consistency, and individual progress sit at the heart of everything we do.
About the Setting
This specialist SEN secondary school supports pupils aged 11–16 with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, alongside Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, and additional communication and learning needs. Many pupils have experienced disruption to their education and benefit from a highly structured, trauma-informed approach delivered by a dedicated and understanding staff team.
Class sizes are small, support is strong, and the focus is on re-engaging learners through personalised pathways that build confidence, curiosity, and resilience.
The Role
As a Science Teacher, you will deliver engaging and practical Science lessons across KS3 and KS4, adapted to meet a wide range of learning needs and abilities. You will play a key role in helping students reconnect with learning, develop scientific thinking, and experience success in the classroom.
This full-time role starts ASAP and has the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver differentiated Science lessons that meet individual SEN needs
Create a calm, safe, and predictable learning environment
Build positive relationships that support emotional regulation and engagement
Work closely with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, and therapists
Support pupils’ academic progress, wellbeing, and personal development
Use flexible and creative approaches to learning, including practical and real-world science
What We’re Looking For
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification
Experience working with SEN pupils (SEMH and/or ASC preferred, but not essential)
A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to behaviour and learning
Strong classroom management rooted in consistency and understanding
A genuine passion for inclusive education
Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
Why Work Through Supply Desk
Competitive daily rates
A dedicated consultant who understands SEN education
Access to SEN-focused CPD and training opportunities
Opportunities for long-term placements and career progression
£100 referral bonus for recommending a friend
Supply Desk is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check
