Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth‑form college in Winchester, proudly rated Outstanding by Ofsted in every category. Our success is built upon a large team of committed, talented staff who remain at the heart of everything we achieve.
Physics is a popular subject at the College, with approximately 600 students across two year groups. Our department consists of seven physics teachers supported by two highly experienced technicians. We currently follow the Eduqas specification and make extensive use of online resources within our well‑equipped, dedicated facilities. Results are consistently excellent, with the department maintaining an Outstanding rating in recent years.
We are seeking a Teacher of Physics for a permanent, full‑time position (1.0 FTE). The successful candidate will hold a strong degree in physics or a closely related subject. We welcome applications from both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers (ECTs).
Note:
while this post is advertised to start in September 2026, the role officially commences with student enrolment during the last week of August. Teaching staff are required to work this week; however, if you have a pre‑existing commitment, please state this in your application and we will honour it.
Our staff are the heart of the College. We are a proudly anti‑racist institution guided by the motto “Counting in Ones”, which applies to staff and students alike. We offer a supportive and inclusive culture, including special leave for significant occasions, staff‑run groups, a choir, Monday night football, and regular staff forums. To support wellbeing, there is no expectation to respond to emails out of hours, and we provide lunch for all lunchtime meetings.
Additional benefits include 5 Days of Christmas treats, end‑of‑term activities, and bike/computer loan schemes.
We are dedicated to safeguarding the students in our care. To that end, a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced disclosure will be required in the event of an individual being offered a position within our College. Our staff undertake regular safeguarding and Prevent training and are subject to ongoing safeguarding scrutiny.
