Overview

We aim to appoint a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist with a special interest in faster diagnostic services / gynaecological oncology to join the established team at University Hospitals Sussex (UHSussex). We are looking for a capable and enthusiastic colleague who will contribute towards the development of the gynaecological oncology faster diagnostic service over the next decade and beyond. We are looking for a skilled and experienced obstetrician and gynaecologist with excellent skills and experience in managing complex and general gynaecological conditions including complex obstetric and gynaecological emergencies.

The candidate should have experience in laparoscopic and open abdominal surgery. Experience in ultrasound scanning, colposcopy and hysteroscopy are desirable. Previous involvement in service development and quality & safety initiatives are also desirable.

Responsibilities
  • Work well as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Be able to set up new multidisciplinary services to encompass the particular needs of different groups of patients
  • Be clinically competent and confident in all aspects of acute care
  • Be aware of their own clinical limitations and able to seek help where necessary
  • Be able to teach the skills necessary for safe practice to trainees in years one to seven
  • Be able to undertake and use clinical audit in this field
  • Be able to produce evidence based clinical guidelines and actively participate in quality improvement projects within the division
Qualifications
  • Basic medical degree
  • MRCOG or its recognised equivalent
  • Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview. If you trained in the UK, you must also have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Obstetrics & Gynaecology or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date. If you trained outside the UK, you must provide evidence that your qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT.

  • ATSM advanced labour ward practice, sound skills and experience in managing emergency obstetric and gynaecological presentations
  • Understanding of clinical risk management
  • Sound skills and experience in complex gynaecology
  • Gynaecology scanning portfolio
  • Colposcopy, Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
Organisation and Planning
  • Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams.
  • Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
Academic and Research
  • Evidence of participation in audit
  • Research experience
  • Publications
  • Prizes and honours, Evidence of good communication skills both oral and written
