Our client, a leading contractor specialising in the utilities and power sector, is seeking to recruit an experienced Senior Buyer to join their team in Derby. The company delivers civils and construction projects across the UK, providing high-quality solutions to a wide range of clients.
The Role:
As a Senior Buyer, you will play a pivotal role in the procurement process, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials, equipment, and subcontractor services essential to the successful delivery of construction projects. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and suppliers to develop strong relationships, negotiate contracts, and manage supply chain risks.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing end-to-end procurement for assigned projects, including sourcing, tendering, evaluation, and contract award.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Negotiating terms and pricing to achieve cost savings and value for money.
- Monitoring supplier performance and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
- Collaborating with project teams to forecast material requirements and manage delivery schedules.
- Ensuring adherence to company policies, health & safety regulations, and industry best practice in procurement activities.
Candidate Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Senior Buyer within the construction or utilities sector, preferably in civils or power-related projects.
- Strong knowledge of procurement processes, contract management, and supplier management.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Relevant procurement qualifications such as CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) are highly desirable.
- Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office suite.
