Job Summary: North Yorkshire Council is seeking an experienced Children’s Social Worker (Grade I) to join the Children & Young People’s Service on an agency basis. This role is based primarily in Selby, with some expectation of countywide travel. The post is to provide long-term sickness cover and will involve statutory social work with children and families, including court work and care planning.
The role is inside IR35 and requires a minimum of three days per week in the office.
- Manage a caseload of children and families in line with statutory duties and local authority procedures.
- Undertake assessments under the Children Act 1989 and relevant legislation.
- Complete care planning, reviews, and permanency planning for children looked after.
- Prepare high-quality court reports and represent the local authority in family court proceedings.
- Work collaboratively with children, families, carers, and partner agencies to safeguard and promote welfare.
- Carry out risk assessments and implement child protection plans where required.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and legally compliant case records.
- Participate in multi-agency meetings, strategy discussions, and reviews.
- Comply with professional standards, policies, and procedures of North Yorkshire Council.
- Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
- Proven experience in Children’s Services within a local authority setting.
- Strong experience in court work, including statement and report writing.
- Demonstrable experience of care planning and working with children looked after.
- Sound knowledge of child protection legislation, guidance, and statutory frameworks.
- Ability to manage a complex caseload effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Confident decision-making and risk management skills.
- Ability to work from the office a minimum of three days per week.
- Willingness and ability to travel countywide when required.
