Family Support Worker – Children’s Social Care ? Worcestershire area
Are you passionate about supporting children and families to thrive, even at their most challenging moments? Do you believe in early intervention, strength-based practice and keeping families together wherever possible?
We’re recruiting a Family Support Worker to work closely with children, young people and families where there is a Child in Need Plan in place, including those on the edge of care. This is a hands‑on, rewarding role where your work will directly help keep children safe, supported and within their family networks.
What you’ll be doing As a Family Support Worker, you will:- Deliver direct work with children (including babies and pre‑school children), parents and carers
- Support families through assessment, planning and review processes
- Provide practical parenting support and guidance, modelling positive parenting skills
- Work with families experiencing high levels of risk or potential family breakdown
- Empower parents and carers to take responsibility for meeting their children’s needs
- Contribute to safeguarding and risk management, helping to prevent escalation
- Work collaboratively with Social Workers and partner agencies as part of the Team Around the Family
- Maintain high-quality case records and reports in line with safeguarding procedures
- Work flexibly, including some evenings and weekends, based on family needs
- Significant experience working with children and families
- Experience delivering family support and parenting interventions
- Strong understanding of child development
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act
- Ability to assess risk, work in challenging situations and undertake lone working
- Excellent communication, observation and report-writing skills
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent experience) in Childcare, Early Years, Social Care or similar
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle during the working day
- Experience with child protection procedures
- Experience working with babies and pre‑school children
- Familiarity with electronic case management systems (e.g. Liquid Logic)
- First Aid training and knowledge of equality & diversity
