Position: Clerical Assistant - Brae High School - SIC08589

The postholder will be based in the relevant School Office and will be managed by the Head Teacher. The postholder will assist the Head Teacher with the provision of a variety of administrative/clerical duties and will assist in the supervision of an Employed Trainee.

Specific Tasks Of The Clerical Assistant
  • Provide switchboard and reception duties, being the first point of contact at the school, dealing with enquiries from staff, pupils, parents, outside agencies and the general public.
  • Log and sort mail and prepare mail for posting.
  • Assist with record keeping and processing of all types of financial transactions, including purchase orders, invoices and journals, and day-to-day administration and banking of school meals money, the School Fund and petty cash.
  • Create various documents using computer packages, such as memos, letters, reports, booklets, publicity material, etc., and ensure that all correspondence is presented appropriately.

  • Grade of this post is

    F.
  • Salary inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £2,997 per annum (pro rata).
  • 1 permanently full‑time post for 37 hours per week, 40 weeks per year.
  • 1 temporary part‑time post for 14 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (approximately 12 months ending April 2027).
  • 40 weeks per year plus 6.40 weeks (pro rata) paid holiday to be taken during school holidays.
  • Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made.
  • Relocation package does not apply to this post.
  • Interview expenses to be paid within Shetland.
  • We are open to flexible working.
