Accountant, Financial Reporting, Tax Accountant

We are currently supporting a public sector organisation in the appointment of an Interim Year-End Accountant to support the finance team through a critical year-end period. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical accounting knowledge and experience delivering statutory accounts within a public sector environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring an efficient and compliant year-end close, supporting audit preparation and ensuring financial reporting deadlines are met.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and support the year-end close process
- Prepare statutory accounts in line with public sector accounting standards
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial reporting frameworks (e.g. IFRS / CIPFA Code where applicable)
- Liaise with internal and external auditors, providing schedules and responding to queries
- Review and reconcile key balance sheet accounts
- Support the preparation of working papers and audit files
- Assist with resolving historic accounting issues where required
- Provide technical accounting guidance to the wider finance team

Key Requirements

- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA)
- Proven experience delivering year-end accounts within the public sector
- Experience supporting external audit processes
- Strong Excel and financial systems skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced interim environment
