Assistant Director of Nursing
We’re seeking a dedicated Assistant Director of Nursing to assist with ensuring efficient functioning of the nursing department and assume administrative nursing duties in the absence of the Director of Nursing. This full‑time, salaried position is based at The Mather in Tysons Corner, with required weekend and holiday availability as needed.
Essential Functions- Follow policies and practices ensuring consistency with current standards promulgated by local, state, and federal regulatory bodies.
- Identify and report deviations from safe practice/risk management issues.
- Act competently in emergency situations based on Safety Manual, Internal and External Emergency Preparedness and other policies.
- Comply with Mather Code of Conduct, Policies, Compliance Programs, and all applicable laws and regulations; report all known and suspected violations to supervisor, Mather Compliance Officer, or Human Resources.
- Identify care‑center issues, propose possible solutions, and adapt to changes as part of QA/PI process.
- Apply the concepts of the Mather Wellness Model and the 3 A’s (Achievement, Autonomy, Affiliation) in the care of residents.
- Document care per documentation policy and standards.
- Assist in licensing and survey preparedness and processes.
- Attend and participate in care‑center meetings, in‑services, and committee meetings.
- Support safety and risk management for nursing operations and staff, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures with respect to resident and employee safety, risk management, resident rights and privacy.
- Serve as a contact for nursing staff, residents, and resident representatives to assist with concerns and questions about operations.
- Use a customer‑focused approach to problem solving, goal setting, and management philosophy.
- Maintain a courteous and professional manner through interactions with others.
- Communicate with residents and families in a timely manner.
- Use discretion in handling confidential information and incorporate all privacy and confidentiality requirements.
- Reflect Mather’s commitment to inclusivity in all interactions.
- Provide input for all relevant human‑resource functions including hiring, retention, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations.
- Protect and advocate for resident rights.
- Participate in sales and promotion of the community.
- Incorporate fiscal responsibility through efficient, safe, and cost‑effective practices in the delivery of care.
- Cover shifts as a staff nurse when required.
- Participate in orientation of new employees.
- Increase personal growth and development through formal and informal education programs.
- Facilitate teamwork between functional departments to promote effective operations.
- Participate in employee wellness opportunities; support team member participation in events.
- Make daily visits to determine resident physical, mental, and emotional status and implement any required nursing intervention.
- Review medication records for completeness and accuracy in the transcription of physician orders; adhere to stop‑order policies.
- Review resident plans of care for appropriate goals and approaches, and make revisions based on individual needs; participate in care‑plan meetings.
- Assign nursing staff responsibility for nursing care.
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of nursing personnel on the unit.
- Keep the Director of Nursing Services informed of the status of residents and other related matters.
Required:
- Current VA RN license.
- Experience in nursing leadership.
- CPR/AED certification.
