Accounting Manager

We are representing a well-established government contractor in the DMV area that is looking to add an Accounting Manager to its growing finance team. This is a strong opportunity for an experienced accounting professional with government contracting experience to join a reputable organization and contribute to its continued growth.

The ideal candidate will bring 6+ years of Gov Con accounting experience, with a strong background in cost accounting, compliance, and financial reporting.

This position will oversee the General Ledger (GL) function and lead the monthly and annual close process. The Accounting Manager will manage key accounting activities including financial reporting, internal controls, audits, budgeting, payroll, tax compliance, and GL maintenance, while working closely with senior finance leadership.

• Lead and develop the GL accounting team
• Manage the monthly close process including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis
• Maintain the general ledger and balance sheet accuracy
• Establish and maintain strong internal controls and compliance processes
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR, and other government contracting regulations
• Support indirect rate budgets and financial forecasting
• Maintain and reconcile cost pools and allocation structures
• Oversee external audits and agency reviews (DCAA, IRS, CPA firms) including Incurred Cost Submissions
• Ensure federal, state, and local tax compliance
• Collaborate with AP, AR, Payroll, and Project Controls teams
• Identify and implement process improvements to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 6–10 years of accounting experience within government contracting
• Strong knowledge of cost pool allocations and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)
• Experience working with GAAP and FAR compliance
• Proven leadership and team management experience
• Advanced Excel skills
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
