The Quality Mechanical Inspector ensures precision machined components and assemblies meet customer and internal specifications. This role performs first article, in-process, and final inspections using manual and automated tools, while supporting production and quality teams to maintain consistent standards. Candidates should have strong CMM and GD&T skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to accuracy and accountability in a precision manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities Inspection- Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections of machined parts and
- Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, and indicators.
- Operate and program coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
- Inspect incoming raw materials and components from outside processing.
- Accurately, document inspection results on travelers, reports, and logs.
- Support nonconformance investigations and communicate quality issues to
- Interpret and apply GD&T standards to inspection work.
- Review engineering drawings, control plans, and customer specifications.
- Support the quality team in maintaining ISO 9001:2015 documentation, driving continuous improvement, and promoting cross-functional collaboration.
- Contribute to first-pass yield improvement and defect reduction goals
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized inspection area.
- Keep tools and equipment in proper working order and report issues promptly.
- Contribute to a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 5 years of inspection experience in a machining environment.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint interpretation.
- Skilled with precision inspection tools including micrometers, vernier calipers, height gauges, and optical comparators.
- Experience operating and programming CMM equipment.
- Basic computer skills (Excel, Word).
- Able to work independently and communicate effectively with the team.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and quality system documentation.
- Experience with data-driven quality improvement tools.
- Familiarity with surface finish measurement and advanced metrology methods.
- Ability to lift and handle materials up to 35 lbs.
- Stand for extended periods while using precision inspection tools.
- Visually inspect small components and operate computer-based inspection equipment.
- Manual dexterity and fine motor skills required for precision measurements.
