Required

Experience and Education

  • Education:

    Associate's Degree in nursing required
  • Experience:

    3 years of Medical/Surgical or Intensive Care experience
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    Texas RN license (NLC/NURSING LICENSURE COMPACT) required; BLS certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) required
Preferred
  • Education:

    Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC) preferred
Job Duties
  • Performs and documents physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments with age-specific considerations.
  • Anticipates patient and family expectations and needs to develop an appropriate plan of care; maintains competencies per unit expectations; applies critical thinking in planning and prioritizing nursing care.
  • Identifies and implements nursing interventions based on assessment; completes documentation; coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care; shares information with the care team to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Prioritizes interventions based on assessment; identifies changes in condition; reports changes and takes follow-up action as appropriate.
  • Evaluates interventions and modifies care; documents changes to the plan of care.
  • Adheres to policies, procedures, clinical pathways, and standards of nursing practice; contributes to practice improvement based on current literature and research.
  • Provides education to patients and families; documents education; ensures understanding and comfort with post-discharge care; communicates effectively with diverse patient populations.
  • Welcomes and orients patients and families; explains plans of care, tests, procedures, and medications; participates in rounds.
  • Supervises unlicensed staff and new nurses; delegates duties within legal parameters.
  • Responds to patient/family concerns; uses appropriate escalation and the chain of command to resolve issues; acts as a patient advocate.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities; attends mandatory meetings and educational sessions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
