Utility Technician, Maintenance Worker

All interested applicants must be willing to work a flexible schedule to include weekends, and holidays in accordance with the on-call rotation. The successful applicant will be hired on a 6 month probationary period to be evaluated by the Public Works Director prior to becoming a permanent employee assigned to the position. The duties of the employee will be subject to but not limited to the following:
Essential Functions- Operate and maintain equipment at water wells, wastewater plant, and lift stations.
- Perform physical chemical analysis to monitor and adjust plant processes accordingly.
- Troubleshoot equipment and treatment processes as needed.
- Service and maintain all water well and plant structures/buildings.
- Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on underground facilities within the City’s collection and distribution system including water and sewer leak repairs and cleaning sewer lines with hydro jet truck.
- Properly locate and mark all underground facilities within the City’s collection and distribution system.
- Completes work orders as assigned
- Participate in on-call rotations and emergency response as required (e.g., storms, utility breaks).
- Other duties as assigned by the Public Works Director
Starting rate: $20.25 DOQ

Minimum Qualifications- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- High school Diploma or GED.
- Possess a valid Texas Class C Driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain T.C.E.Q. Class C Ground Water and T.C.E.Q. Class C Wastewater licenses within two years of employment.
- Ability to obtain T.C.E.Q. Class B Wastewater license within 5 years of employment.
- Experience with SCADA and GIS mapping systems preferred.
- 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment (backhoe, skid steer, and mini excavator) preferred.
- Applicant must pass a pre-employment background investigation, drug screen and physical administered by the City of Whitehouse appointed physician at the City’s expense.
- Ability to withstand standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Stretching, bending, pushing, stooping, climbing, crouching, and crawling.
- Must be able to perform physical activities such as lifting heavy objects up to 100 pounds.
- Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions and in varying environments (construction zones, confined spaces, traffic areas).
- Exposure to loud noise, dust, chemicals, and hazardous conditions.
