Job Description

All interested applicants must be willing to work a flexible schedule to include weekends, and holidays in accordance with the on-call rotation. The successful applicant will be hired on a 6 month probationary period to be evaluated by the Public Works Director prior to becoming a permanent employee assigned to the position. The duties of the employee will be subject to but not limited to the following:

Essential Functions
  • Operate and maintain equipment at water wells, wastewater plant, and lift stations.
  • Perform physical chemical analysis to monitor and adjust plant processes accordingly.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and treatment processes as needed.
  • Service and maintain all water well and plant structures/buildings.
  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on underground facilities within the City’s collection and distribution system including water and sewer leak repairs and cleaning sewer lines with hydro jet truck.
  • Properly locate and mark all underground facilities within the City’s collection and distribution system.
  • Completes work orders as assigned
  • Participate in on-call rotations and emergency response as required (e.g., storms, utility breaks).
  • Other duties as assigned by the Public Works Director
Compensation

Starting rate: $20.25 DOQ

The City offers excellent benefits including paid holidays, vacation/sick leave, health, dental, life, disability insurance, and TMRS retirement.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school Diploma or GED.
  • Possess a valid Texas Class C Driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain T.C.E.Q. Class C Ground Water and T.C.E.Q. Class C Wastewater licenses within two years of employment.
  • Ability to obtain T.C.E.Q. Class B Wastewater license within 5 years of employment.
  • Experience with SCADA and GIS mapping systems preferred.
  • 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment (backhoe, skid steer, and mini excavator) preferred.
  • Applicant must pass a pre-employment background investigation, drug screen and physical administered by the City of Whitehouse appointed physician at the City’s expense.
Physical Qualifications
  • Ability to withstand standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Stretching, bending, pushing, stooping, climbing, crouching, and crawling.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as lifting heavy objects up to 100 pounds.
  • Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions and in varying environments (construction zones, confined spaces, traffic areas).
  • Exposure to loud noise, dust, chemicals, and hazardous conditions.
