OverviewA freestanding ER in Tyler, TX is seeking a Lead Health Unit Coordinator (Lead HUC) to join their team.
We are seeking a dependable, experienced Lead Health Unit Coordinator (Lead HUC) to provide on-shift leadership and support to the HUC team. This role serves as a working lead
, offering guidance, consistency, and real-time problem-solving while continuing to perform core HUC duties. The Lead HUC acts as a trusted point person on assigned shifts and partners closely with leadership to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Perform all core Health Unit Coordinator duties
- Serve as the on-shift point of contact for HUC staff
- Provide guidance and support to team members during the shift
- Help ensure appropriate coverage and smooth handoffs
- Assist with training and onboarding of new HUCs
- Identify issues or trends and escalate appropriately to leadership
- Model professionalism, accountability, and best practices
- Support operational consistency across shifts
Responsibilities for the Health Unit Coordinator
Requirements and Qualifications for the Health Unit Coordinator
- Prior experience as a Health Unit Coordinator (required)
- Strong understanding of unit workflows and coordination
- Calm, solution-oriented presence during busy or high-pressure shifts
- Ability to guide peers respectfully and professionally
- Strong communication and follow-through
- Comfortable escalating issues rather than owning formal discipline
- Reliable, consistent, and team-focused
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Successful completion of clinical orientation with proven capabilities in skill, knowledge base and vision of Hospitality Health Emergency Room
- Able to work 12-hour shifts and have the availability to work a matrix schedule, including nights and weekends
- To take initiative, doesn’t need to be asked to perform tasks
- Maintain skill level by continuing education, collaborative training with co-workers and physicians and annual checkoffs
- High school Diploma or GED
- Ability to read, speak, and write the English language
