High School diploma or GED. - Experience:
Experience in Code Enforcement is preferred but not required. - Certifications:
Code Enforcement training, CPR training. - Licensing:
Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, with a clear driving record. Must meet Texas state law requirements to obtain and maintain Code Enforcement Officer licensure through TDLR; licensure required if not already held. - Residency:

Inspection, improvement, and rehabilitation of environmental hazards in public and private premises by determining the presence of fire or health hazards, nuisance violations, unsafe building conditions, and violations of any fire, health, or building regulation, statute, or ordinance.
Essential Job Functions- Conduct inspections of environmental hazards in public and private premises.
- Determine the presence of fire or health hazards, nuisance violations, unsafe building conditions, and violations of any fire, health, or building regulations, statute, or ordinance.
- Removal of trash and debris from premises or roadway. Process abandoned vehicles for removal from roadway.
- Must demonstrate the ability to properly handle confidential, sensitive, and legally protected information in compliance with state law, city policy, and CJIS-related standards where applicable.
- Ability to prepare legally sufficient documentation and provide credible testimony in court or administrative hearings.
- Assist Animal Control Services. Clean shelter, feed and water animals, assist in the apprehension of stray animals. Issue citations to irresponsible pet owners. Purchase, and transport food for shelter animals. Load, transport to crematorium and unload deceased animals.
- Communicates with public regarding cases, complaints, and requests for information.
- Assists other departments with code compliance.
- Must be able to work weekends and after hours.
- Contributes to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of City Code of Ordinances of the City.
- Knowledge of the department’s rules, regulations, policies, and procedures as well as relevant training programs and content.
- Knowledge of the geography of the city, proximate incorporated areas and the City’s road network.
- Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to enforce ordinances with firmness, tact, and impartiality, and to deal courteously with the public.
- Ability to keep records and make reports from such records.
- Ability to input, access, and retrieve data from a computer.
- Operate police department vehicle, two way radio, mobile telephone, video camera/equipment, Animal Control catch pole, shovel, rake, traffic cones, iPad, Microsoft Office as well as other reporting programs and apps.
