Overview
What We Need YOU To Do The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR), working at our Northeast District Office in Summit County.
What You Will Do You will perform district Site Coordinator and RCRA Inspector duties for assigned remedial action and hazardous waste handling facilities. You will review and prepare work plans, sampling plans, reports, and technical memoranda associated with properties undergoing site assessment and cleanup activities through Ohio’s Voluntary Action Program or other state and federal cleanup programs.
You will inspect facilities for compliance with state and federal regulations and permit requirements, as well as review and evaluate permit applications and modifications. You will also identify possible pollution prevention alternatives.
You will investigate complaints, perform assessments of contaminated environmental or waste-related media, conduct periodic inspections to verify compliance with existing permits, and determine the effectiveness of existing remedial activities. You will plan and develop strategies for assisting responsible parties and hazardous waste facilities with non-compliance issues and identify the need for and initiate necessary enforcement actions. You will also provide technical assistance to Ohio EPA legal staff and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and provide testimony, if necessary, at legal proceedings.

- Provide technical assistance to Ohio EPA legal staff and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
- 12 months of experience as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861, or
OR 4 years of training or 4 years of experience in a position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology or hydrogeology and/or other comparable physical or health science field and/or mathematics which included responsibility for conducting compliance monitoring surveys and/or inspections/reviews or investigations, or review of permit applications relative to oil & gas well operations or injection, annular disposal & saltwater injection wells & enhanced recovery projects or coal mining, or solid/hazardous waste sites or industrial & municipal wastewater dischargers, or collecting, compiling & preparing various environmental assessments, evaluations, reports & related documents.
Training & experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned. - OR a baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, geology or other comparable physical or health science fields, with training to be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
