Industrial Painter

The Industrial Painter is responsible for preparing, coating, and finishing metal and fabricated components using industrial paint systems to meet quality, durability, and appearance standards. This role supports production schedules by ensuring painted products meet company specifications, safety standards, and customer expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Clean, sand, grind, mask, and prepare metal surfaces for painting
  • Remove rust, grease, oil, dirt, and old coatings as required
  • Inspect materials for defects prior to painting and report issues
  • Apply industrial coatings using spray guns, rollers, or brushes
  • Mix paints and coatings per manufacturer specifications
  • Maintain consistent film thickness, color, and finish quality
  • Apply primers, base coats, and protective finishes as required
  • Follow curing, drying, and recoat time requirements
  • Inspect finished products for defects such as runs, sags, bubbles, or uneven coverage
  • Perform touch-ups and rework as necessary
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality standards and customer specifications
  • Clean and maintain spray booths, paint guns, hoses, and tools
  • Properly store paints, solvents, and hazardous materials
  • Meet production deadlines and daily output expectations
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members
  • Assist with other production tasks as needed
Safety Expectations
  • Comply with all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and manufacturer instructions related to paints, coatings, and chemicals
  • Properly use and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators, eye protection, gloves, protective clothing, and hearing protection
  • Follow all respiratory protection, ventilation, and spray booth safety requirements
  • Safely mix, handle, label, store, and dispose of paints, solvents, and chemicals in accordance with SDS guidelines and environmental regulations
  • Maintain strict fire prevention practices, including proper grounding, storage of flammable materials, and elimination of ignition sources
  • Inspect equipment, hoses, spray guns, and booths before use and report defects immediately
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of slip, trip, or fire hazards
  • Immediately report injuries, near-misses, spills, or unsafe conditions to supervision
  • Participate in required safety training, audits, and inspections
  • Stop work and elevate concerns if unsafe conditions exist
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience as an industrial or manufacturing painter preferred
  • Knowledge of industrial coatings, paints, and surface preparation
  • Experience with spray booth operations (Preferred)
  • Familiarity with epoxy, polyurethane, or specialty coatings (Preferred)

Note

This role requires the ability to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive motions, and lift up to 50 lbs, with frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and climbing. Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to paint fumes, solvents, noise, dust, and varying temperatures. Employees must be able to safely wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods.
