Job SummaryA Food Process Engineer at Shambaugh is expected to perform quality food process engineering design services professionally so projects meet or exceed customer satisfaction for schedule and budget.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Develop flow diagrams and ensure specifications comply with:
- Customer requirements
- Shambaugh & Son standards and specifications
- Federal, State, and Local regulatory agency requirements
- Balance calculations and provide design criteria for project production to customers.
- Conduct production line time studies, capacity usage studies, and product mass flow calculations.
- Confirm process utility spreadsheet, outlining utility service needs.
- Create a detailed scope of work that clearly communicates our scope to clients and the estimating department.
- Utilize standard engineering practices: calculations, spreadsheets, equipment schedules, details, piping methods, and control sequences.
- Develop installation requirements (materials, methods) to convey scope and quality to client and field teams.
- Compile equipment specifications/schedules and RFQs for accurate inquiry response.
- For construction‑phase projects, distribute approval drawings and equipment specification sheets and prepare a written functional description for the Shambaugh Automation Group.
- Provide on‑site engineering support, commission projects (including troubleshooting), and train owner operators.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural, Chemical, Mechanical, or Food Process Engineering.
- 3–5 years of experience in food and beverage industry design and project management (breweries, bottlers, dairies, confectionery producers, etc.).
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
- Travel required as project design and execution demand.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and AutoCAD (plus).
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Regular and reliable attendance, including extended hours and weekends as needed.
