As a Part-Time Swim Instructor for the City of Twin Falls, you’ll help build confidence, skills, and water safety for swimmers of all ages and abilities. In this role, you’ll teach swim techniques and water safety while creating a positive, encouraging, and structured learning environment throughout the summer season.
You’ll work closely with fellow instructors, lifeguards, pool supervisors, and recreation staff, using strong communication, patience, and teamwork to ensure participants have a safe and successful learning experience.
What You’ll DoIn this role, you will:
- Teach swim techniques, strokes, and water safety skills to participants of varying ages and abilities
- Adapt lesson plans to meet individual skill levels and learning goals
- Assess swimmer progress and provide clear, constructive feedback
- Promote a safe, positive, and encouraging learning environment
- Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and staff
- Work as part of a team to support pool operations and respond appropriately in emergency situations
- Continue developing your own skills and knowledge as a swim instructor
- Listen to feedback and apply it to improve your instruction
- Perform related duties as needed
- $16.00 per hour for public lessons
- $20.00 per hour for private lessons
- Seasonal position:
May – September (with potential opportunity beyond summer) - 20–40 hours per week
We’re looking for someone who:
- Enjoys teaching and working with people of all ages
- Has strong communication and instructional skills
- Brings a positive attitude and works well as part of a team
- Can adapt instruction to meet different learning styles and abilities
- Is open to direction and willing to apply feedback
- You must be at least 16 years of age
- Previous competitive swimming, lifeguarding, or instructional swim experience
- Ability to pass a pre-swim instructor training swim test
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen
Pre-employment training is required and will be provided at no cost. Training standards are set by the American Red Cross and include:
- Red Cross Water Safety Instructor training
- Practical skills assessment
If you successfully pass all sections of training, you will become an American Red Cross–certified Instructor.
Training ScheduleIf you are offered a position, required training will be held on the following days. You will be assigned to attend one of the following sessions. All classes are held at the Twin Falls City Pool. A pre-test is required before attending your assigned class.
Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification – Required
Session 1:
- April 15, 17, 20, 22, 27, 29, & May 1
- 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Pre-test:
March 16 or April 1, 4:00–5:00 PM
Session 2:
- May 12–15 & May 19–21
- 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Pre-test:
April 21 or April 28, 4:00–5:00 PM
