Staff Accountant

We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to manage general ledger activities with a heavy focus on vendor rebate programs. This role is essential to our financial accuracy, as you will be responsible for the tracking, calculation, and reconciliation of rebate income across a high-volume distribution network.

About the Role

You will support the month-end close process, perform data-driven reconciliations, and work closely with the Accounting Manager to ensure all rebate-related income is recognized in accordance with GAAP.

Responsibilities

• Perform monthly rebate calculations and record accrual journal entries to ensure accurate income recognition.
• Maintain the vendor rebate database, ensuring all contract terms, tiered rates, and eligibility details are current and accurate.
• Reconcile large volumes of purchasing and rebate data to identify discrepancies between expected and received income.
• Support the month-end close process by preparing GL reconciliations and performing variance analysis on rebate-related accounts.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly margin reviews by product line, identifying trends or anomalies in rebate performance.
• Partner with Procurement and IT teams to improve data integrity and streamline the rebate tracking process.
• Prepare schedules for internal and external auditors and assist in ensuring documentation meets compliance standards.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation within the rebate and accounts payable workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 1–3 years of accounting experience (distribution, wholesale, or retail industry experience is a significant plus).
• Proficiency in general ledger accounting, including experience with accruals and reconciliations.
• High comfort level with large datasets; you should enjoy "diving into the numbers" to solve discrepancies.
• Advanced Excel skills are a must (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, etc.); experience with ERP systems like Yardi, Sage, or SAP is preferred.
• Solid understanding of GAAP principles.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet strict month-end deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
