Orange theory® Fitness is a unique group personal training workout founded on a science-backed approach to fitness. Featuring heart-rate-monitored sessions designed around excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC), workouts aim to maximize calorie burn and boost metabolism. Each 60-minute session blends endurance, strength, and power exercises using state-of-the-art tools such as treadmills, rowing machines, TRX® suspension trainers, and free weights. Led by skilled coaches, participants experience improved energy, visible toning, and the signature 'Orange Effect,' which can last up to 36 hours post-workout.

Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Tuscaloosa, AL. The Head Coach plays a critical leadership role in delivering the Orange theory Fitness promise—a consistent, high-energy, science-backed workout experience that drives results, engagement, and member retention. This position is responsible for leading the coaching team, upholding Orange theory standards, and partnering with studio leadership to support overall studio performance.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching Excellence & Member Experience
- Lead by example in delivering a consistent, safe, and effective Orange theory workout experience in every class.
- Ensure all coaches execute templates accurately, coach to heart rate-based training principles, and uphold brand standards.
- Drive member engagement by supporting consistent workout routines that encourage long-term participation and results.
- Champion the use of OTBeat performance tracking to enhance member understanding, motivation, and results.
- Recruit, onboard, train, and develop a high-performing coaching team.
- Lead ongoing coach education and development to ensure:
- Conduct formal coach evaluations at least once per quarter and lead goal-setting and performance follow-up conversations.
- Facilitate monthly template rollout meetings to ensure consistent execution and understanding.
- Lead the coach development portion of weekly studio meetings.
- Coach 16 Orange theory classes per week (approximately 24 hours of coaching time).
- Dedicate approximately 16 hours per week to studio leadership and administrative responsibilities.
- Monitor, adjust, and optimize the class schedule to support studio growth while maintaining Orange theory utilization standards of 80% or higher.
- Support member retention efforts by coordinating fitness-related member outreach and engagement, maintaining at least 80% monthly completion.
- Oversee structured fitness touchpoints for new members throughout their first 120 days.
Operational Excellence
- Ensure all studio equipment is safe, functional, and maintained to Orange theory standards; address equipment issues within 24 hours and maintain maintenance logs.
- Partner with the Studio Leader to plan and execute special fitness initiatives and events, including Dri-Tri, benchmarks, specialty workouts, and Corporate/VIP classes.
- Stay current on all Orange theory Fitness systems, tools, and product updates relevant to coaching and member experience.
Compliance & Brand Standards
- Complete all required Orange theory University training and ongoing education.
- Maintain all required certifications (OTFit, Personal Training, CPR/AED).
- Ensure full compliance with Orange theory Fitness brand standards, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
- Experience in coaching and personal training, including knowledge of fitness programming, group training, and exercise technique.
- Ability to develop and implement leadership strategies, including mentoring, training, and performance management of coaches.
- Certification(s) in personal training, fitness coaching, or related areas, such as NASM, ACE, or similar, is required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage and motivate members and team members effectively.
- Proven ability to create and foster a supportive, inclusive, and engaging fitness environment for all participants.
- Detail-oriented mindset with organizational skills to manage class schedules, client feedback, and coaching operations efficiently.
- Previous leadership or coaching management experience is highly preferred.
- Passion for fitness and wellness, combined with a commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles.
Coaching Requirements
To uphold Orange theory's position as an industry leader and promote a safe experience for our members, all Orange theory coaches must befully certified,which includes holding the following credentials:
- NCCA Approved Primary Certification(from the list below)
- Adult CPR/AED Certification
- OTFit Coach Fundamentals(by a Certified OTFit Facilitator)
Important Note: All coaches must obtain a current NCCA Approved Primary Certification and CPR/AED Certification prior to day one (1) of OTFit training.
