(Specialty Paddling Programs – Recreational Level)
Position Overview
The Para & Paddle All Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, delivering, and advancing the Club’s adaptive paddling programs for individuals with disabilities at the recreational level. This role combines program coordination, adaptive sport expertise, volunteer leadership, and hands‑on facilitation to ensure participants receive a safe, inclusive, and meaningful paddling experience. The Coordinator works closely with the Recreation Program Coordinator, seasonal staff, and volunteer teams to provide high‑quality programming aligned with the Club’s mission.
Program Delivery & Participant Support
- Introduce paddlers to the fundamentals of recreational canoeing and kayaking, using adaptive teaching techniques as required.
- Teach and apply basic water safety principles during all program activities.
- Supervise participants in all aspects of the program to ensure safety, engagement, and enjoyment.
- Review all participant intake forms and prepare individualized accommodations as needed.
- Continuously assess participant needs and collaborate with team members to adapt equipment and activities throughout the season.
- Ensure all accessibility features and program accommodations are prepared and in place before participants arrive.
- Conduct intake interviews and registration reviews prior to program start.
- Plan the summer program schedule in alignment with program goals, participant needs, and available resources.
- Make ongoing adjustments to lesson plans, equipment setups, and activity stations based on weekly group needs and observations.
- Maintain clear, timely communication with participants, families/caregivers, volunteers, and the Recreation Program Coordinator regarding schedules, changes, accommodations, and expectations.
- Abide by and enforce all Club rules, policies, and safety procedures.
- Report any safety concerns or incidents to the Executive Director, Recreation Program Coordinator, or Board of Directors.
- Lead, guide, and support volunteers who assist participants on the water.
- Provide volunteers with clear instructions, role expectations, and skills training relevant to adaptive paddling and safe participant support.
- Create and maintain an organized volunteer structure to ensure smooth program delivery.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and teamwork‑focused environment for both volunteers and participants.
- Lead program setup, equipment staging, and accessibility preparations before each session.
- Coordinate the on‑water support plan, ensuring volunteers and equipment are properly assigned.
- Oversee program cleanup, equipment care, and the safe shutdown of operations after each session.
- Ensure all adaptations (seating, outriggers, straps, grips, communication tools, etc.) are properly fitted and maintained.
May – June:
Early Season Preparation
- Participate in onboarding and staff training.
- Practice adaptive paddling techniques and program procedures with the team.
- Conduct participant intake reviews and identify required accommodations.
- Finalize summer lesson plans, safety plans, and volunteer assignments.
July – August:
Program Delivery
- Coordinate and lead weekly program sessions (3 evenings a week).
- Guide volunteers and provide on‑site coaching and skill development.
- Adjust programming dynamically based on group needs and participant abilities.
- Ensure consistent, high‑quality program operations from setup to cleanup.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities in sport, recreation, education, or therapeutic settings.
- Experience paddling (canoe, kayak, or both) and willingness to learn adaptive techniques.
- Strong leadership skills, especially in training and coordinating volunteers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with diverse participants and families.
- Awareness of inclusion, accessibility, and adaptive sport best practices.
- Ability to manage safety protocols and respond to dynamic on‑water environments.
- A positive, patient, and participant‑centered approach.
Salary: $25/hour, based on experience and qualifications
